Fully Bonded System
A pre-applied membrane that the structural concrete is cast directly against, so the sheet and the slab cure into one. Water that finds a defect has nowhere to travel, which is what separates a fully bonded system from a loose-laid one.
About Fully Bonded System
The membrane is laid over the blinding and up the shuttering before any concrete is poured. As the pour goes down, the wet mix keys into the membrane’s coating and forms a mechanical bond across the whole face — not a seal at the laps alone. That bond is the point of the system: on a loose-laid sheet a single puncture lets water track laterally under the membrane until it finds a construction joint metres away, and the leak surfaces nowhere near the damage.
We install fully bonded systems on rafts, retaining walls and lift pits where the ground water table sits above the structure and there is no realistic way back in once the building is up. Laps, penetrations, pile heads and kickers are detailed individually, and the sheet is protected before steel fixing starts so it survives the rest of the programme.
