About Anchoring

An anchor is a bar or strand grouted into a bond length far behind the failure surface, then tensioned against a bearing plate. That pre-stress is what separates an anchor from a nail: the ground is loaded before it can move, so deflection is controlled rather than merely resisted, which matters when there is a building or a road immediately behind the wall.

Every anchor is stressed and tested against its design load on installation, and the records form part of the handover. We supply temporary anchors for the construction stage and permanent, double-corrosion-protected ones where they stay in the works, along with the uplift anchors that hold a basement slab down against ground water.
