Rebar is made of steel, so it has the same strength properties as steel. However, the strength of rebar can vary depending on the grade and type of steel it is made from, as well as its size and shape. In general, high-grade and high-strength steel will have higher strength properties than lower steel grades.
Rusty rebar can still be used in concrete, but it should be inspected by a professional to ensure that it has not been compromised structurally. It should not be used if the rust has caused significant pitting or weakening of the rebar. Additionally, suppose the rebar is used in a structure exposed to corrosive elements such as salt water or acidic soil. In that case, it should be treated with a rust inhibitor before being embedded in the concrete.
